There are several ways to get to and from Pulau Banyak. International travellers can enter the closest International Airport of Medan and travel either overland (8-10 hours by car) or by air (40min-1hr flight) to Singkil: the coastal port town where you embark to Pulau Banyak.

Transportation

There are several budget airlines operating flights internationally from Kuala Lumpur (KUL), Singapore (SIN), Bangkok (BKK), and domestically within Indonesia to Medan Polonia Airport (MES). Susi Air currently have weekly scheduled chartered flights from Medan to Singkil.

From the port town of Singkil there are numerous modes of water transport to Pulau Balai, the main port of the archipelago in Pulau Banyak; weekly scheduled ferries, daily local boat and organised speed boats – subject to availability. Please refer to www.sumatraecotourism.com for more specific travel information, or alternatively please contact us for current scheduled times of the local ferry from Singkil to Pulau Banyak.

Please be advised that operating volunteers or tour groups in connection to Yayasan Pulau Banyak will be met at the airport in Medan, and have all transport arranged to the archipelago.

Air Asia – Air Asia flies to Medan (MES) daily from Jakarta (CGK), Kuala Lumpur (KUL), Penang (PEN), Bangkok (DMK), and operates weekly scheduled flights from Johor Bahru (JHB).
Lion Air – Lion Air flies to Medan (MES) from Jakarta (CGK) and Penang (PEN), and operates daily scheduled flights from Banda Aceh (BTJ).
Sriwijaya Air – Sriwijaya Air flies to Medan (MES) predominantly from most major domestic airports within Indonesia.
Susi Air – Susi Air operates weekly scheduled chartered flights from Medan (MES) to Singkil, and Sinabang (SNX) on Pulau Simeulue north of Pulau Banyak.
